This feature is available for Enterprise-level accounts, is visible to users with customer admin privileges only, and requires end-users be on the 3.16 MobileLibrary (or higher).
With Push Notifications you can alert your mobile users directly via the MobileLibrary app. This will allow you to quickly reach your mobile users to notify the team of new and interesting app content, important changes in company procedures, or simply to reach disengaged users to re-engage them with your app.
When a Push Notification is received, the app user will be able to view your alert from any screen, including the device lock screen. To open the MobileLibrary app, the user only needs to tap on the notification.
Composing a Notification
- When composing a push notification, be concise and focus on the information, not the user actions.
- Be short enough to display on one or two lines. Longer messages are difficult to read quickly and can require alerts to scroll and banners to truncate your message.
- Be mindful that push notifications can be abrasive; they interrupt the flow of whatever the user is doing whether or not they are within an app.
- Don't worry about including your app name in the message. The notifications will automatically include the app name.
Sending a Notification
- Be mindful of sending push notifications frequently. If used too often it may result in the user disabling notifications or disengaging from the app. A user that has disabled notifications can no longer be reached via push notifications.
- We recommend you don't send multiple notifications for the same event. Users can view notifications when they choose; they don't disappear until users handle them in some way.
- Only one recent notification for a particular app is stored. If multiple notifications are sent while the device is offline, each new notification causes the prior notification to be discarded.
Why am I not able to access Notifications in WorkCloud?
Both the account's WorkCloud and MobileLibrary must support notifications. Please reach out to email@example.com to see if your account is configured to send push notifications.
Are push notifications guaranteed to reach all app user recipients identified in WorkCloud?
Unfortunately no. We will notify you if an error has occurred before Apple has received a notification but Apple has noted in their documentation that "delivery of notifications is a 'best effort', not guaranteed." Fortunately, there are steps that can be taken to better your odds for success: following the best practices in this document, and if necessary, consider additional communication channels for added assurance.
Why aren't my app users receiving any notifications?
There can be several reasons an app user is not receiving push notifications:
- The app user has not been identified as a recipient for the push notification;
- The app user is not logged into the MobileLibrary app;
- The app user has previously disabled push notifications; or
- The app user has not upgraded to a MobileLibrary app supporting push notifications.
What if an app user has their device turned off when a notification is sent?
The notification will be stored for a limited period of time and will be delivered when the device becomes available. There are some additional caveats depending on the length of time a device is unavailable or the frequency in which notifications are sent
- Only one notification for a particular app is stored at time. If multiple notifications are sent while the device is unavailable, each new notification will overwrite the prior notification.
- If the device remains offline for a significant length of time, it's possible the stored notification will be expired and discarded before the user receives the notification.
How can an app user enable push notifications if they had previously denied notifications for the MobileLibrary?
A user can visit the app's settings via the iOS Settings app to opt in to notifications.
Can app users disable notifications on the lock screen for the MobileLibrary app if notifications contain sensitive information?
Yes, a user can visit the app's settings via the iOS Settings app to disable notifications on the lock screen as well as opt out or into notifications.
When an app user receive a notification, will the ScrollMotion Mobile Library app icon display a badge?
No, the app badge, which appears over the upper-right corner of an app's icon on the device's home screen, is reserved to indicate content is available for installation.
